Wicked is a Broadway musical based on the best-selling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. This tale is a recreation of the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz tale told from the vantage point of the Witches of Oz prior to Dorothy’s arrival. The musical sprang into existence on Broadway in New York on October 30, 2003, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Though Wicked originally debuted to mixed critical reviews, Wicked has proved a tremendous success, spawning productions in London, Tokyo, Chicago and Los Angeles.
